Story
Hi everyone,
Many of you may know my good friend Sam who suffers from Cystic fibrosis (CF) which is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing. Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting physical health, mental wellbeing and how people choose to live their lives. Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the charity uniting people to stop cystic fibrosis.
Over two years ago Sam went through a double lung transplant to help alleviate the serious challenges the condition brought. This was a stressful time as a friend, so cannot imagine the pressures on Sam and his family. Since the operation Sam has had to contend with a global pandemic, himself suffering from covid (twice) but it has dramatically improved his quality of life. He is back playing cricket and golf, sometimes both in the same day, whilst also being able to enjoy a lads holiday, something which would not have been possible prior to the operation.
In September 2020 myself and 30 friends walked 40 miles from Newcastle RVI (operation hospital) to Sam's hometown of Barnard Castle raising over £4,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Trust, once I had recovered I promised I would attempt a challenge each year to keep supporting the charity and signed up for the Edinburgh Marathon. Last year the race was cancelled so I have had chance to train for a full year to prepare...unfortunately I have faced some injury troubles but as we get to the final stretch I will share my training progress as I aim break Eliud Kipchoge's WR.
Any donations would be welcome for a fantastic cause.
Thank you.
