Story
So the plan for 3rd September is as follows...
Swim 2.4mile (3.8km) - Bike 112 miles (180km) - Run 26.2 (42.2km)
This includes an elevation gain of 2,070m on the bike and 396m in the run, which for context is just under 2 times up Ben Nevis or half way ip Mont Blanc.
I think (still not sure) I like to challenge myself. Once I'd conquered my first Olympic/standard distance triathlon after not being able to swim more than a couple of lengths of my local pool, I suppose Ironman was always in the back of my head. I think I could have maybe picked one a little more straightforward than Wales, but when your sister lives near the start well....
And why Refugee action. Well when my employer elected to support the organisation, I have learnt so much about refugees which wasn't the narrative of the mainstream media. It helped me realise that their work is incredibly important and worthy. Below are their words on the reason why their campaign 'Race for Refugees' is so important.
Everyone deserves safety. But for far too many refugees, safety is the last thing they find when they arrive in the UK. Can you imagine being forced from your home because you are no longer safe there, and making the dangerous journey to Britain? You might be hoping to be reunited with family, or excited to build a new life for yourself somewhere where you already speak the language. After everything you've survived, you deserve support, kindness and respect. But instead you are threatened with deportation to Rwanda. Or you are left facing years of waiting to hear back about your asylum claim, banned from working, and living in squalid accommodation and poverty. Refugees deserve better than this. And that's why I'm raising money for Refugee Action. They have been standing up for refugees since 1981, delivering services for refugees, and campaigning for their rights. Please sponsor if you can, and help support refugees across the UK. Thank you!
