Story
On 8th January we rushed our son Jenson to A&E at Stoke Mandeville Hospital because we were worried about his breathing, never imagining what the next 24 hours would hold. Within minutes he was having blood tests, scans and x-rays and consultants were explaining to us that they had concerns over Jenson's heart. Over the next few hours we were told that he needed to be transferred to Southampton Paediatric Intensive Care as he needed their specialist cardiac help.
When we arrived at Southampton Hospital we sat down with a consultant who explained that Jenson would need urgent surgery within the next 24 hours. He had coarctation of the aorta which meant that his blood flow out of the heart was severely restricted. The surgery would involve cutting out the restricted part of the aorta and stitching the two parts back together.
The care PICU provided Jenson during this time is something that we will never forget and be eternally grateful for. The speed in which they acted saved his life! The work that they do on a daily basis is nothing short of a miracle and we hope that the money we raise continues to help all other children in the future receive the same care and support that we did.
All of our thanks,
Gregg, Beth and Jenson
