Story
In January 2018 I became critically ill with Meningococcal Sepsis resulting in total organ failure and being placed into a coma. After a long time in intensive care the amputation of both my legs below knee and 9 of my fingers became imperative to save my life.
I have worked hard to return to work as a teacher and regain a good level of fitness. As a part of this endeavour I am now directing my focus to raising awareness and funds for UK Sepsis Trust.
To achieve this I am going to complete the London Landmarks Half Marathon on April 7th 2024. I’ve always loved sport, obviously I can’t do all sports now, but this is something that I can do to show that actually anything is possible.
For those battling Sepsis at the moment I want to prove that you can get through Sepsis. You can come out the other side and still achieve things you might have thought impossible.
Sepsis is a leading cause of death in the UK. The UK Sepsis Trust reports that around 48,000 deaths are attributed to sepsis annually in the UK.
Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis. It raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms.
It also funds our vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our Support Group network. We also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
