The Anthony Nolan Trust – Taking back lives from leukaemia
CUBA BY BIKE!
Yes....that's right......by bike!
And I could really do with your help and support please….. I was invited by the Anthony Nolan Trust to take part in this amazing charity event in November 2010. It probably won't surprise you that I didn't need too much persuasion to take up the challenge. It just seemed such a common-sense thing to do. I have promised the Trust that I will ensure that I am capable of completing the challenge – and I have also promised that I will raise £2,800 too….gulp! That’s why I need the help please…. I have no worries about my fitness levels - as those of you who know me well will be aware that I seem to spend most of my spare time training in the gym anyway - so it all kind of makes sense really! I'm physically able to help the Trust - so why not?So hopefully that's not going to let me down!
Apparently it’s going to be hot and humid - with lots of hard cycling – on, probably, not the best roads in the world! However, it’s probably going to mean that it is the first time that I have returned from a foreign country fitter than before I went – which has to be a bonus!
The idea is very simple..... I, along with other dedicated, possibly insane, supporters of the Charity will cycle 350 kilometres through - over 5 days. We have a target of around £125,000 in total to reach between us (more if possible). We are all now commencing our training schedule to make sure that we are in tip-top condition to take on the challenge. Hopefully, you will support me - with a kind donation to the Anthony Nolan Trust - either through making your donation through my JustGiving page, or by whatever means suits you best. If you want to donate via some other way than through just giving - then contact me please and arrangements can be made for you to do do.
· ‘We find - and look after potential donors’ ·
‘We analise and manage our database if tissue-types’ ·
‘We research ways to make transplants more successful’
They essentially ‘take back’ lives from leukaemia All of this takes up an awful lot of money – constantly – every single day…it never stops! £50 is the average cost that enables a new potential lifesaver’s blood sample to be tissue-typed and quickly identified as a potential lifesaver when a patient in need of a transplant is identified £300 is the average cost of promoting a regional donor drive for getting potential lifesavers onto the bone marrow register £700 is the average cost of the collection of potentially lifesaving cord blood. This includes the specialist equipment, materials and time of a mid-wife to complete the collection
So please dig deep and donate now. I intend to keep a log of my bike challenge through out the 5 days and will send it on to anyone who chooses to support me financially in order that they can read all about it!
IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF ME NOT COMPLETING THE CHALLENGE THEN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO A FULL REFUND OF YOUR PLEDGE
Regards
Greg
