Between 6pm on Tuesday, April 21 and 7.30am on Wednesday, April 22, four burglars – believed to be teenagers – broke into the school.

Three tricycles specially designed for disabled children were stolen, and the intruders also vandalised a trampoline by breaking the protective net frame and scrawling obscene messages over it in permanent marker.

Mr Victor, who has worked at the school for 15 years, told the Mercury incidents of this kind were not common. "In the scheme of things we have been very fortunate that this does not happen often to us, we have had very few breaks-ins," he said. He continued: "People work very hard to have the resources we need, we even had two teachers run the London Marathon in aid of the school recently." Two of the three yellow Rabo tricycles – specially made to allow children with disabilities to use them – were later recovered
