Story
If you live in Exeter, Mid or East Devon, Hospiscare is your local adult hospice charity. Should you or a loved one need care for any type of terminal illness, our professional team of doctors and nurses are here to help. Our services are provided irrespective of race, religion, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, diagnosis or place of national origin.
Over the past year, many regular fund-raising events have had to be cancelled, including Exeter's Great West Run, which I have regularly run in aid of Hospiscare. So this year my son Hugh and I are going to run our own half marathon, around Exeter's Green Circle footpath network. The Green Circle isn't quite a half marathon length, so we'll have to run a bit extra to and from our homes, which won't be very green; so it's a green(ish) half(ish) marathon. But you can still sponsor us for Hospiscare....
...and we did it. Joined by youngest son, Nick, we ran the whole Green Circle on 29th May, a warm sunny morning (I got burned). We started opposite Lidl in Wonford and ran clockwise so we went down the steepest hills rather than up them, though even going down was painful enough; and we ran a bit extra back up Wonford Street to make sure we did the full half-marathon distance. It took us a little over two and a half hours, which is nobody's personal best, but it's a rough and hilly route in places. Many many thanks for all the messages of support, and the fundraising contributions: we've already beaten our target, with more still coming in.
