Story
In 2014 my son Aiden was born, this event has become the biggest journey and challenge of my life. Aiden suffered a hypoxic event at birth, meaning he didn’t breath for 28 minutes. He was diagnosed with HIE and subsequently cerebral palsy, he is an incredible little boy with an infectious smile and laugh but he has many challenges in his life. He is unable to walk or talk so there are 2 reasons why I’m doing this for him, 1) because his requires a lot of therapy which needs to be funded privately and 2) to show him that no matter how hard or how long it takes him to achieve something, that it’s reaching the finish line that matters, it doesn’t matter if it takes an hour, a day or a year, just that we all need to keep trying until we get there.
Aiden’s fortunate to have great support, his amazing friend Lorraine will also be running the Great North Run with me. We’ll be crossing the finish line together and spurring each other on through the run. #inittogether
Neither of us are natural runners and this is going to be a big challenge for us, but one we gladly take on to help improve Aiden’s life and his access to continual therapy so that he can keep reaching for the stars ⭐️
