Story
On Saturday 16th September, Rich and I will be taking on the 18 mile Great Hospital Hike to fundraise for King's College Hospital Charity and here is why:
On 2nd October 2022 our beautiful little Poppy was diagnosed with a brain tumour and hydrocephalus. Straight away we were blue lighted to Kings College Hospital in London. Poppy underwent 2 brain surgeries in 4 days - firstly, the most urgent one to remove the fluid on her brain and secondly, one to remove the large tumour. After 10 days in hospital, we took Poppy home and waited for the biopsy results. A few days later we received the news that the tumour was a benign pilocytic astrocytoma.
The care we received at Kings was exceptional from the moment we stepped out of the ambulance and into A&E. We are so unbelievably grateful to all the staff members who looked after Poppy and guided us through the most challenging and scary time of our lives - the nurses, the neurosurgeons, the anaesthetists, the neuro drs, the oncology nurses, the physios, the OTs, the list goes on. Poppy will remain under the care of Kings, being monitored with regular scans for some time and we are committed to fundraising for this wonderful hospital so that other families can receive the same level of excellent care we are.
Every penny raised will support King's College Hospital Foundation Trust to go above and beyond what the NHS can provide, to fund innovative equipment, life-changing research and better facilities. Any pennies you can spare are greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Nicki, Rich, Poppy, Lily and Archie xx
