Story
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
My Grandad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in September 2017, it's a cruel disease and has completely changed him as a person. Doctors describe Alzheimers as "rapidly shrinking brain". Even though Grandad is fairly mobile now, Alzheimer’s patients can become bedridden, unable to move and unable to eat and drink. As well as hugely affecting my Grandad, Alzheimers has had a massive impact on our family, particularly my amazing Nan who does the best job caring for him. One of the worst parts about Alzheimer's is seeing Grandad deteriorate over time and knowing that nothing can be done to stop the progression.
Alzheimer's Society do a great job of supporting families in need, as well as putting money into researching the causes as the disease is becoming more common within our ageing population.
