Story
I'm running the Great North Run for Prostate Cancer UK.
In October 2021 my Dad, Frank, experienced severe lower back pain, attended his local A&E and following a CT scan was told cancer was present in his prostate with metastases at secondary sites.
This news was devastating for him and his family and we have since had to witness disease progression, a physical and emotional roller coaster for all of us. My dad is an independent, strong, kind and caring gentlemen. His fight against cancer continues and I am immensely proud of him as his son for his continued sense of humour, optimism and selflessness.
Awareness of prostate cancer risks, signs and symptoms supports early detection and this is critical to the chances of successful treatment and cure. Prostate cancer kills 1 in 8 men. That's one dad, partner, brother, son, grandad, uncle or mate.
So, please support my fundraising effort so that Prostate Cancer UK can continue with it's amazing work.
I'll be running all 13.1 miles/21.1 km thinking of my dad every step of the way hoping this small gesture contributes to a bigger impact in fighting all forms of cancer.
Love you Dad, You'll Never Walk Alone x
