Story
This pandemic has touched everyone in some way — some more than others. Admittedly, I often find myself complaining about the situation we're all in, before catching myself upon realising that I have a lot to be grateful for.
I was lucky enough to be brought up in an environment that was conducive to learning and development — something many of us assume is a given.
I use the word 'lucky' because we don't get to choose our parents, or the environment we grow up in; many kids — through no fault of their own — never get to experience much of what I took for granted as a kid.
Simple things like:
- love and affection
- someone to open up to
- new positive experiences
- positive role models
- fun and adventure
That's where Befriend a Child really makes a difference.
They support school-aged children across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire who are growing up in difficult life circumstances.
The charity matches them with a trained volunteer who supports them and helps them develop resilience, self-confidence, self-esteem and to experience more of what life has to offer.
