SPECIAL THANKS TO J. GORDON WILLIAMSON LTD IN ELGIN, EZ SPORTS IN INVERNESS AND THALES WHO HAVE ALL KINDLY GOT BEHIND THE TEAM FINANCIALLY TO ALLOW THIS EVENT TO TAKE PLACE.
UPDATE: The team completed the Northants Ultra race on Sunday 6th June. The race was a good insight into the ultra distance running. The team completed the run with no physical injuries, just a few aches, to be expected!! We also managed to touch base with the organiser of Trans Britain. 3 months to go now to the big one.
Go Beyond Ultra Human Endurance Trans Britain 2010.
Between 11-17th September ths year, a team of 3 personnel based at RAF Kinloss are going to attempt the Trans Britain event. The event itself is run by a company called Go Beyond, and is worldwide, with entries already in from Europe and the USA.
Entry to this event would not have been possible if it was not for the kind generosity of J.Gordon Williamson, based in Elgin, who have kindly sponsored the team £2250 in order to pay the entry fee. Also without the help from EZ Sports, this challenge would not have been possible. EZ Sports have kindly supplied the equipment and nutrition for the event. On top of that the team would not be able to particpate in the event if they could not take a support crew down. Thales, from RAF Kinloss have kindly sponsored our support crew £1000.
The reason for this challenge is to help raise as much as possible for Help 4 Heroes, a charity that is heavily relied upon by the British Armed Forces at this time. Our target aim is £3000-£5000.
The event itself will stretch all 3 runners to the limit in physical fitness, determination and endurance. The team has already started a heavy training regime, in order to bring success to the team.
THE EVENT
The race itself is over 6 days and starts in Scotland and culminates in Wales During the 6 days each runner must complete the entire 6 races and also must be self sufficient throughout the 6 days, carrying their equipment, for both day and night, with them at all times. The only thing that will be replenished throughout each day is water. At the end of each stage, competitors will rest in tented accomodation, were medics, physios etc are on hand to tend to any aches and pain!
THE EVENT FOR THE TEAM WILL BE COMPLETED IN DPM, BOOTS, BERGANS AND WEAPONS CARRIED
DAY 1: Gretna to Caldbeck 35 miles
Race 1 starts at Robert the Bruces cave near Gretna, Scotland. From here we must navigate our way South to a checkpoint in the foothills of the Cumbrian mountains.
DAY 2: Caldbeck to Mell Fell 24 miles
Race 2 will see the first of the climbs. Shorter distance but now the climbing begins.
DAY 3: Mell Fell to Rydal 19 miles
Race 3 is a much shorter race only covering 19 miles. However this stage has the climbing of 5 of the highest peaks in the Cumbrian mountains. Last years runners struggled to maintain 2 mph, due to the scrambling up shingle and steep peaks!!
DAY 4:Rydal to Dent 34 miles
Back to the longer distance for this flatter stage of the event.
DAY 5: Dent to Settle 26 miles
This stage has a couple of big climbs, including the Pen-y-Ghent.
DAY 6: Wrexham to Ruthin 19 miles
The final stage of the event is a mixture of Welsh hills and forest trails.
DAY 7: A&E!!!!!!
On completion of the event, all competitors are accomodated in Ruthin Castle, where a gala dinner is held that evening.
Over the past few years we have completed various events, but this is by far the most challenging to date.
Any help from 50p to £50 will go a long way to helping this be a success and would be greatly appreciated not only by us but by H4H themselves.
THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ!!
