Story
We are running the Leeds Half Marathon on 14th May 2023 to raise funds for the Brain Tumour Research charity. Our family in Spain, including my 11 year old niece, will be running at the same time in support of this fantastic organisation.
In February 2022, I was diagnosed with a Pituitary Tumour. I had been ill for a while, and the diagnosis meant I was added to the waiting list for neuro surgery.
Fortunately for my family and I the surgery went ahead on 16th January 2023, performed by the Neuro and ENT surgeons at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The neuro surgery ward where I spent my time was full of amazing staff. My family and I saw first hand the kindness and empathy shown towards their patients, even in the most challenging of situations.
On the ward there were patients with varying types of brain tumours, on different care pathways, with many potential clinical outcomes. This made me think that without organisations such as Brain Tumour Research, the high quality of pre and post op care would not be where it is today. Saying that, there is still more that can be done to assist those wonderful clinical staff in supporting patients further.
This charity contributes to helping our NHS in identifying these illnesses earlier, providing the right medications at the right time, and therefore increasing the likelihood of recovery.
The kindness and dedication of the staff who looked after us at Leeds Teaching Hospitals was inspiring. Thanks to them, and Brain Tumour Research, we will be taking part in an event that would have seemed impossible this time last year.
Please help us support the incredible work this charity continues to do.
Thanks
