Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Sadly, dementia touches many lives with approaching one million people in the UK living with the condition.  In 2017 I lost my father (Ross) who had suffered in his last few years with Vascular Dementia. However, the condition doesn’t only affect the elderly and in 2021 my amazing wife Joanna was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), a form of Frontotemporal or “early onset” Dementia at the age of 53.  Joanna has spent much of the last 20 years dedicating a great deal of her time to charitable work at senior levels - now we’re hoping to raise some funds for something very close to home.

Unfortunately, there is currently no treatment or cure for PPA.  I am hoping that by running in the London Marathon on 23rd April 2023 that I can help the National Brain Appeal raise vital funds for those touched by this awful disease and similar conditions.  Hopefully this will also raise awareness for the new Rare Dementia Centre being opened in the next couple of years in London - which will be the world’s first such centre.

Thank you for any contribution you are able to make.  It is greatly appreciated.  This will be my sixth marathon - I’m getting far too old for this!

Many thanks.
