Story
I met Jon Mummery in 2010, after getting to know his wonderful wife Ismay through anti-natal and new mum classes in Ashby. Our children, Dylan and Anora, were born a day apart, and we formed a friendship in our shared experiences and joy, in our new found roles as parents. Jon sadly passed away this year, having blessed many lives with his boundless love, energy, kindness, and generosity. Despite living with Cystic Fibrosis, his passion for life, braveness and positive attitude was and is an inspiration for all those who knew him. His family and friends are raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis ward at Glenfield hospital, to make a difference to the patients and families that spend long periods of time there. Raising money in Jons memory can make a real difference to families living with Cystic Fibrosis, and let his family know how much Jon is and was loved.
So, I am taking part in Thunder Run 2014 on July 26/27th at Catton Park in South Derbyshire, with a team of 6 friends. It's a 24 hour 10k cross country relay race, and I expect to be doing 3 or 4 laps(30 or 40k) within the 24hr period, including at least 1 lap in the dark. I entered Thunder Run (which I also did in 2012) because of the challenge, the exercise in the fresh air, the amazing team experience, and the weekends free camping! However, I am not a naturally good runner, and I find it really hard to find the time, energy and commitment to train properly to be in good enough shape to safely take part.
Raising money and awareness for a cause that is important to me and my friends and family, gives me a new level of motivation to get out there and run the training miles whatever the weather, and to keep going on the day, especially for the night time lap (I do not run in the dark normally!!).
