Story
This January The Grandads of the Atlantic are taking on a different challenge from 2 years ago. This time it is the Tommy 10,000 Step Challenge to raise vital funds for RBLI of which we are very proud to be ambassadors. However this is not an ordinary step challenge: 10,000 steps, over 31 days, will total 155 miles, which is the distance travelled by our Tommies during the fighting retreat to Dunkirk. Grandad Peter’s grandfather was there over 80 years’ ago, at the age of 53! We will be taking on 155 miles this January carrying a 35lb backpack to remember them. RBLI help veterans and their families in their time of need and provide crucial accommodation, welfare and employment support to injured veterans and people with disabilities. Right now for every person they help, there is one they can’t and that's why they need our support.
The Grandads have also seen many of their fellow soldiers lose their lives or suffer life inhibiting injuries in the service of their country. More recently Grandad Neil’s nephew, Captain Andrew Griffiths, was one of those who died as a result of injuries sustained in Afghanistan in 2010.
Any donation you can make will be most gratefully received.
