GREAT NORTH RUN UPDATE - 9th September
I won't be running the GNR on Sunday. I did a 6km test run yesterday morning and took the strapping tape off my knee at lunchtime, and the discomfort and pain has returned.
To say I'm gutted is an understatement, particularly given that I was due to run it last year before it was cancelled. However, I don't want to risk causing more damage to my knee by running a half marathon. My own health and wellbeing has to come first. I'm hoping the people who've contributed to my JustGiving page will understand, and I pledge to earn their sponsorship money by running a half marathon next year once I'm fully healed.
I'm still going up to Gateshead for the weekend and will be walking Jesmond Dene parkrun on Saturday morning instead of running it.
Finally, if anyone would like a last minute GNR entry you're welcome to my race number. I'm not asking for any money for it, although if you wanted to make a donation to my JustGiving that would be appreciated. I can drop off the number in Liverpool today (Thursday) or tomorrow, or you can collect it from me on Saturday in Gateshead (or at Jesmond Dene parkrun).

ORIGINAL MESSAGE
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running my first Great North Run half marathon on Sunday 12th September to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK. I should have been taking part last year, but we all know what happened there... This time round I'm crossing my fingers that the race will go ahead as planned and I'll get to run across the iconic Tyne Bridge as I head back to Gateshead Stadium.
I'm raising money for Alzheimer's Research UK because my mum has Alzheimer's. I'm aiming to raise £500 to help fund groundbreaking research into Alzheimer's and dementia.
Alzheimer's Research UK is making breakthroughs possible.
