Story

When someone is diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, they and their family might need specialist support to live the best quality life possible. Rennie Grove is a unique local charity which provides this support, at no charge, for people living in Bucks and west Herts.

Our care begins from diagnosis and supports the patient, their carers and family members with clinical, emotional and practical support throughout the period of treatment and beyond. Central to our clinical support is the care provided by our nurses to help with symptom control, either on a day services or home visiting basis. They are supported by our domiciliary care team, who can swiftly put personal care assistance in place if needed, so people can remain at home in their final weeks if that is their wish. Our emotional support includes listening and counselling for patients and loved ones, creative therapies and activities, companionship for patients, and respite sits for carers.  Meanwhile, our practical support helps keep domestic life intact by providing help with transport and everyday tasks like gardening, dog walking or housework.

Our care is delivered through five services which work collaboratively to meet the unique circumstances of each patient, carer and family.   An important first step is establishing which service will best meet the patient and family’s immediate needs. Once referred into that service, care from other services can be brought on board as needed. Below you can find out more about how our services work together to support people in different circumstances. We provide support at end of life but the majority of our work focuses on supporting those with life-limiting illnesses who have many more years to live. That support includes symptom control, pain relief, companionship, spiritual support and improving the physical wellbeing of patients
