Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It has taken a long time to complete my retirement as many of you are aware.

But that day has now arrived, and I can now achieve some of those objectives and experiences I have talked about for so long.  One of my most enjoyable and enligtening experiences during my time with IBM was my year spent working in South Africa.  I came to love the continent of Africa and its peoples. At that time, I made a committment to come back and support their struggles to improve their living conditions and environment, particularly for the children.

On June 16th I fly to Rwanda to take part in a 300K cycle ride to raise money for the charity Edirisa (http://www.edirisa.org.uk/Home.html).

The ride commences in Kigali and traverses north along the rift valley and mountains of Rwanda, crossing the border into Uganda finishing at Lake Bunyonyi.  This is where Edirisa have one of their centres:

Working to improve the living conditions of the Ugandan people, focusing on education, health and sanitation, the provision of clean water and sustainable enterprise.

I am funding my participation in the trip so every penny you donate will go to the project.

I will spend the rest of June, and all of July working at the centre supporting their projects, helping in the teaching of the children, particularly English and swimming.  One of the projects will be looking at what support we could give to enterprises in the area to help provide sustainable employment and income for the people removing the reliance on charitable and other support.

Please support my project every donation, small and large, is gratefully received.
