In July last year, I decided on a whim to sign up for the Paris Marathon with two good friends Dan Rimmington and Rob Pearce. The main objective was just to get a bit fitter and set ourselves a goal.

Then In September last year, my beautiful and amazing sister was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at the ripe old age of 39. A challenge she didn't sign up for but got entered nonetheless.

Since that point she has done nothing but try and get through most days with positivity, guts and determination but it's an arduous process that takes its toll whether she likes it or not. Watching a loved one go through it is not nice and unfortunately so many of us now have to do it. In Mich's case, first off after the initial diagnosis, she had to deal with four operations. Now she is in the midst of Chemo before finally embarking on some radiotherapy.

It's still a long road ahead but thanks to Miss Seetharam and her amazing team at The Empress Unit at the Darent Valley Hospital my sister is still here. The unit are looking to raise £30k for new equipment which will help so many women in the future. It only feels right to take what was originally a personal challenge and make it into something more meaningful. My sister already raised over £5k shaving her hair off for the unit and I'm hoping that we can add to that.
