Dear amazing friends

Over the last few months we have covered run 40 marathons and climbed two Mount Everest!

The final race is this weekend 60 miles non-stop from Winchester to Brighton on the south downs way.

The challenge:

62 miles/100km as a team of four people, racing from just north of Portsmouth, along the south downs finishing at Brighton racecourse. This is non-stop race and has to be completed in 30hrs or less (i.e. no sleep and very short stops!). To put the distance in perspective, its like racing two and half marathons without stopping. That's while climbing the South Downs a few times as well... the total elevation is equivalent to climbing Ben Nevis twice, with a little more climbing afterwards!!

Why I'm doing this:

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We are a motley crew of smokers n boozers that will be in a 60mile race, alongside the Royal Gurkhas, for charity. So, please read and maybe even sponsor us.

Who this money will help

Over 200,000 Gurkha soldiers fought alongside British troops in World War I and 40 battalions served in World War II.The Gurkha Welfare Trust helps Gurkha ex-servicemen who served the British Crown, and their dependants, who are in poverty or distress.

Today, some 8,100 veterans and widows, many in their 80s, rely on a welfare pension from the Trust of around £40 (depending on exchange rates) each month.

The trust provides medical care for retired Gurkhas and their families, in rural areas where there may be as few as one doctor per 100,000 of the population.

Nepal is a striking country however earthquakes and landslides are a constant threat. The annual monsoon often spells disaster. Hardship grants help those who are affected.

Educational grants are made to Gurkhas dependents: each year the trust supports the education of around 1,600 children, builds four new schools and conducts an extensive school renovation programme.

On the 27th and 28th of July David Camici, Russell Wood, Tony Shatell and Alun Edwards, with a backup support crew led by Graham Butterworth will run the 100k Gurkha challenge. The run is often undertaken by the Gurkhas who are in training within British army.  This specific race has been opened up to the public as a charity event that is becoming well known world wide.

So if you could spare a few quid for a good cause to aid these great old soldiers, that give thei, that would be greatly appreciated.
