Our intrepid trekkers are taking on a once in a lifetime trek to discover the incredible High Atlas Mountains that will help us to defeat meningitis by 2030.

Story

I am taking on this challenge to reach the peak of Mount Toubkal, 4,167m above sea level, to help defeat meningitis and septicaemia by 2030.Meningitis Research Foundation are at the heart of the initiative that is working with the World Health Organisation and leading experts on the disease to tackle meningitis globally. They are creating a roadmap that if adopted by the World Health Organisation in 2020 will help to save lives across the world and help to stop families from experiencing this life changing disease. I really appreciate your support.

On Monday 3rd June our twin girls, Phoebe and Gabriella, were born at 31 weeks and 3 days.  Although born premature both girls were perfect and after spending time in the NICU and special care unit the doctors announced that the girls were strong enough to come home.

Two days before this date we received a phone call to say that Phoebe wasn't well and the doctors suspected meningitis. We rushed to the hospital to find Phoebe, who only 12 hours before looked fine and showed no signs of illness.  Test revealed that Phoebe had contracted Enterobacter Meningitis, a bacterial form of the disease. Phoebe was rushed to a specialist hospital that same day to receive specialist care. 18 hours after Phoebe contracted this disease Gabriella also showed signs of the infection and was also rushed to the specialist hospital to receive the specialist care.

This disease in such a short period of time, 12 hours, had attacked Phoebe's brain so aggressively that she had suffered irreversible brain damage and she passed away 10 days later. She was only 1 month and 11 days old.

Gabriella was lucky she spent 3 weeks in hospital and was finally given the all clear to come home.

Meningitis remains the second biggest killer of children under 5 years of age, it kills more than 300,000 people every year and leaves hundreds of thousands more with life altering impairments.

I have made a decision to try and raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation, their goal is to try and achieve a groundbreaking goal of defeating meningitis globally by bringing together world leading experts to create a global task force.

I will be embarking on the Morocco High Atlas Trek 2020, this trek will challenge me both mentally and physically as I aim to reach the peak of Mount Toubkal, some 4167 meters above sea level in a 6 day trek.

I would be thankful for any donations to this cause to try and help the foundation try to eradicate meningitis because a family shouldn't have to experience  losing someone they love to this terrible disease.

Thank you
