Story
Hello there and well done for making it this far, grab a bacon roll and keep on reading...
I am running around the IoW on the 10th July to raise money for my local food bank. (https://ultrachallenge.com/isle-of-wight-challenge/)
Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. A simple box of food makes a big difference, with foodbanks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems
In 2020/21, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 2,537,198 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis. Of these, 980,082 went to children.
Some local stats:
5136 Emergency food parcels given by the Isle of Wight Foodbank to support local people in the past 12 months
2205 Children supported in the last 12 months
I love running and I love food, they both seem to go hand in hand and to keep everything balanced I end up doing more of both. I, like you I am sure, do not go to bed wondering if there will be breakfast in the morning - debilitating is only the start of describing this situation and this is something we can all do to help.
Please join me by chipping in 1p for every Km I will run (106)
Graeme
