I am going to be running the Greater Manchester Marathon on April 8th. I have been in training for this now for about a year - with the serious stuff since September. It has been a hard journey, but particularly rewarding (or at least it will be after the race). I have had a long time to prepare and to think about the event, and the thought of whether I want to just fly under the radar and do it for myself, or if I should fundraise on behalf of a charity has never been far from my mind. Taking up running properly has very much changed my life for the better and during this period I have been incredibly touched by the work of the guys at Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary in Merseyside. Day by day they are changing and often saving the lives of the animal population in and around Merseyside. After seeing their updates, I felt that I should use this opportunity to try and raise some funds that may be able to help the charity realise their modest dream of actually having their own premises to work from. Currently, they are having to run the rescue operation out of their respective houses - they were pipped at the post on another premises last year and have yet to find a suitable home. It would be great if you or anybody you may know can donate something to help this charity out, as I am sure you will agree, they are doing a great job... with very little.
