Story
It is so important that we push for more awareness of gynaecological cancers, and for further research. We need to be talking about these cancers more - it is hard to identify symptoms if we don't talk about them, and get them checked.
Sadly, many of these cancers are only diagnosed when the cancer has progressed to a later stage, making the chances of survival much lower.
I, like many others, was unaware of these problems. I didn't even know what the FIVE gynaecological cancers were until I was in hospital with women who were having treatment for aggressive cancers. (They are cervical, womb, ovarian, vulval, and vaginal, by the way.)
This got me thinking. I could do something to raise money to help The Eve Appeal, and the great work that they do. I have made a personal pledge to raise as much money over my lifetime for the charity as I can. Please help me by donating to my Great North Run challenge.
It may have been questionable to decide to run a half marathon after having an operation, but I have 4 months to train hard! I would love your support!

More about The Eve Appeal here:
The Eve Appeal is the only UK national charity raising awareness and funding research into the five gynaecological cancers – womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal.
We were set up to save women’s lives by funding ground-breaking research focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, earlier detection and developing screening for these women-only cancers. We have played a crucial role in providing seed funding, core infrastructure funding and project funding in addition to campaigning to raise awareness of women-specific cancers.
The world-leading research that we fund is ambitious and challenging but our vision is simple: A future where fewer women develop and more women survive gynaecological cancers.
