Grace's Sponsored Screen Break

Emma Weston is raising money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity

Sponsored Screen Break · 30 April 2021

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

My name is Grace and I have a rare condition called Renal Coloboma Syndrome which affects my kidneys and eyes. I am completely blind in my right eye and have limited vision in my left. My kidneys are undersized. My sister, Elsie, also has the condition but it has not affected her vision

My hobbies include football (I’m an avid Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter and I play for the Baschurch Wildcats), baking, fencing, music and acting. I try to not let my limited vision affect what I do.  Like most people, I find myself glued to screens, but just have to be closer to them.

We have regular appointments at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and they look after us amazingly. I am challenging myself to not watch any screens (TV or games) at home for a month during May.  I hope that by doing this I can raise lots of money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital as I really want to give something back to them and to thank them for the brilliant job they do. I would be very grateful if you could give a donation, however big or small. Thank you for your support.
