Gower's 2017 Marathon challenges

Virgin Money London Marathon · 23 April 2017 ·
One in two people will develop cancer at some point in their lives.
Research funded by Cancer Research UK has helped save millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Survival has doubled over the past 40 years. In the 1970s, just a quarter of people survived. Today that figure is half.
This year I have challenged myself again to raise awareness and money for the lifesaving work Cancer Research UK undertake, and I aim to complete my seventh London Marathon on 23rd April. In addition, I will be running my fourth Great North Run and third Hastings Half Marathon. Sadly I've had to defer my second Chicago Marathon until 2018 due to work commitments.
I also recently took on an additional challenge when I completed my first ever abseil (rappel for my US friends) from the top of the Francis Crick Institute, a pioneering and world leading life sciences research centre, part funded and staffed by Cancer Research UK (www.crick.ac.uk). Those who know me well can attest to my many 'meltdown moments' induced by an irrational fear of heights. Really, this was as bad as it gets for me!
With the incredible support and generosity of friends and family, I have raised just over £28,000 to date, helping the to fight this disease. My aim is to reach at least £30,000 this year. My ambition, which I share with Cancer Research UK is to accelerate progress and see three quarters of patients surviving the disease within the next 20 years. My dream is to bring forward the day we cure all cancers. Thanks for helping make this dream become a reality.
Cancer Research UK receive no government funding for their research. Their life-saving work relies on the goodwill, amazing generosity and support of others:
One day everyone will beat cancer, the more research we do, the sooner that day will come.
