Story

My name is Govinda. I am a single mum;working full time. I have just turned 50 years old this year. I wanted to do something different to make a difference in someones life. My dream has been in the making for the past two years, inspired whilst running aimlessly in the countryside of Cambridgeshire. What can I do to make a difference!! run a marathon when I am 50 !! Yes!! Then I just continued to dream, I can do such much more than that; for nothing is impossible if you just believe.

So I have taken a step of faith into the unknown and hope that I can make a difference in someones life.

I do not have the physique of a marathon runner; in fact quite the opposite. I am not thin and graceful like a gazelle, and I certainly do not have the speed. But that is not important; if I can only dream to be like a gazelle in my heart. I will not be breaking any records, I will be slow, I will struggle but what is a challenge if it does not change you.

I will run, walk even crawl if I have to but I will complete my challenge.

So my challenge for 2016 are to run 5 marathons, 5 half marathons and 5 10K's for 5 charities. The aim is to raise between £5 to £50000. I do not want to set an amount; just aim as much money as I can raise.

The charities I have chosen are ones that are close to my heart; the people have inspired me; brought me to tears by their courage, strength and determination to continue during such adversities.

Team Bex - Rebecca Griffiths; a mum battling cancer yet continuing to inspire the community to become healthy. Team Bex was created in 2015 to raise funds for HCCN, a local cancer charity. Becky is a woman who continues to smile; running a half marathon even whilst receiving her treatment. None of us a far from the clutches of cancer; we are all touched by it in some way. Be it personally, or knowing of someone who has been taken by it, or a survivor standing today.

Hope Worldwide – I have been affiliated to this charity for a while; a friend of mine Nadine Templer has worked tirelessly in the Indian Subcontinent for this charity. She with her family have lived and served the people of India and Nepal. The funds are requested particularly for Nepal after the devastating earthquake. To assist in helping children to receive the education they so richly deserve. No child has a right to be denied an education; not be sold into slavery or prostitution. Every child has a right to be free.

Papyrus - Kathy Unwin inspired me to chose Papyrus, a charity to help young persons suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts. Kathy sadly lost her son in November 2014. Any person taking their own life is tragic; even more so when it is your own child. I know all to well the pain it can bring after my daughter attempted to take her own life after being bullied at school.

The PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund - PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone were tragically killed whilst doing their job in Manchester, UK. Bryn Hughes created the charity in remembrance of his daughter Nicola. I ran 250 miles in 2014 for this charity; hasten to say not all in one go!! This was a start of my vision when I dared to dream. As a single mum and police officer; not one day goes when I consider what situation I will walk into. What an incident will escalate into!!. The charity is to support young victims of serious crime.

Your donation will really help me raise as much money as possible for these charities. Which ever touches your heart please donate however small, or better still a pound or equivalent to each charity.
