Story
Matteo Stokes was born in May 2010, when they discovered he had a unilateral cataract.
Our local hospital told us that he would be fine in himself and even advised us not to operate even though after 6 weeks he would go blind in that eye, so we decided to get a second opinion. A friend gave me the name of one of the UK's top eye surgeons Ken Nischal at GOSH ophthalmology department and within 15 minutes he called me back and told me to bring my son up the following Tuesday and he will operate on the Thursday.
Without this advice and the skills of his team my son would of lost his eye sight in that eye. The operation was a success and they removed the cataract and hopefully he may have 30%-60% sight after 7 years in that eye, but we have a mountain to climb in the way of after care, this involves patching the eye for 6 hours a day together with fitting a contact lens and glasses which is not easy on a 5 month old baby.
Matteo is now 12 and has now been signed off from GOSH as the eye never improved but at least we gave it our best shot!
On Friday May 19th 2023 we are holding the 11th annual golf day!
