The George Broude Team GOSH Fund – Raising vital funds for parent and family accommodation provided by the GOSH Charity.
After weeks of discussions, emails and a meeting with GOSH we have arranged for a fund to be created in George’s name to raise money specifically for much needed parent and family accommodation. Our team GOSH Fund is called “The George Broude Team GOSH Fund.”
We want to give back to the hospital that gave our son his life back and our daughter the comfort of seeing her baby brother recover in comfort. After spending weeks in ICU an HIGH Dependency at GOSH we now feel like it is our second home.
Alexa's Main Challenge of the year
I will be running an Ultra Marathon (56 miles) along the Thames Path on Sunday 9th June in my “Home from Home Challenge” to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH) . The money raised will ensure and support the growing need for parents and families have a place to go and rest away from the hospital. The accommodation allows families and parents to gain a sense of normality whilst their child or in some cases children are being treated for some of the rarest and most complex childhood illnesses and conditions.
You may ask why I would even consider doing this gruelling and mammoth ‘home from home’ 56 mile challenge but if you witnessed what great lengths Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), staff and volunteers have done for our son George and many others, you would understand why (well, you might still think it’s a bit bonkers).
I will be starting my run from the Bourne End village clock near Penny’s Corner in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire and will be running to the main entrance of GOSH in London. I will be running the entire distance along the Thames Path, through well-known areas such as Cookham, Maidenhead, Richmond, Windsor, Staines, Kingston, Battersea, Putney and Central London.
Training will officially start on 1st January 2019. The plan is 22 weeks long and includes me running Brighton Marathon, London Marathon and a 32 miles long run! I have joined a running group and will be including strength and conditioning plus Pilates within my weekly schedule. All of this will be done with minimal expenditure and my own research. In the coming months I will be running close to 600 miles!!
Even though I have run a couple half marathons and the Virgin London Marathon in 2017 I definitely wouldn’t class myself as a runner, but I do like a good mental and physical challenge that gives back to others. I have calculated that from January to race day, I will need to run just under 600 miles in training just to enable me to run the 56 miles (90km).
I know that every run I do throughout the cold winter months will be worth even more than the improvement to my overall health, as it also will be raising vital funds and making a real difference to individuals and people who are going through some of life’s toughest moments.
