Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We don’t realise how lucky we are having Bolton Hospice on our doorstep until our time comes to utilise it’s services and all it has to offer.
On April 2nd 2017 our mum, our grandma/nana, our sister, auntie and friend..’nutty Norah’ was admitted to Bolton Royal Hospital for gallbladder pains, 4 days later our world was turned upside down, inside out and back to front when we were told she had the EVIL C! We were strong and as a family, thought we’d get through this and mum would recover with treatment. After loads of tests and being in a tremendous amount of pain, Sadly that was not to be the case, no treatment was available due to the medication she was on after having a stroke on 26th March (the week before) and not being able to find the primary cause.
At this point we asked for a referral to Bolton Hospice to help try get mums pain under control so she could have some quality of life back. Luckily a bed became available a few days later and off we went into the unknown. We were greated with a friendly, warm welcome by the staff and volunteers and mum settled into her own private ensuite room with a view of a lovely garden. Not only was mum given the love, care and compassion she deserved by these wonderful people that work there, we did too...all her immediate and extended family. Within 24hrs, mums pain was under control and during her first admission lasting 3 weeks, my sister and I stayed with her including over night, we were never made to feel we weren’t supposed to be there or we should go home, we became part of the ‘hospice family’.
All the stops were pulled out to get mum home, a hospital bed and other equipment was delivered so mum could spend time at home. This lasted 10 days before she was readmitted after getting an infection.
Again we received a warm welcome. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing is too much trouble for the doctors, nursing staff, volunteers, porters and cleaners who all work there as we again ‘moved’ in. They gave us time to talk and cry, share our worries, answer our questions, laugh and generally support us as we went through the most horrid time of our lives and this will never be forgotten.
Mum knew where she wanted to be at the end of her life, somewhere she felt safe and secure, where not only she would be looked after and cared for, but we would too... and in the early hours of Monday 5th June, mum moved on to her next life surrounded by all who loved her.
Without Bolton Hospice, mum wouldnt have received the specialist care she did and it is vital the hospice raise as much money as they possibly can to enable other families to receive the care and support we did. So PLEASE dig deep and give as much or as little as you can....
We never in a million years thought we’d ever need to utilise the services of Bolton Hospice and we’d like it to be there in case you or your family ever do!!
Thank you for your support.
