Story
Job done - 1,100 mile ride from Lands End to John O'Groats in 8 days.
Highlights:
1. Setting off at Lands End after 12.5 hrs on trains. It stayed dry for the first 20 miles.
2. The smell or wild garlic coming through the Wye Valley - filled the air.
3. Seeing the sun after 3.5 days in constant rain.
4. Some great beers in the evenings.
5. Cycling through magnificent scenery in Arran and Argyll with sun on my back and a following wind helping to push me along and a good old lick. Magic.
6. A hand massage from the proprietor of the Allt-nan-Ros hotel in Onich (highly recommended). Didn't cure my "handlebar palsy" but a lovely, spontaneous gesture and great hospitality.
7. A large whisky on crossing the finishing line.
8. Raising £4,600 (to date) for Capability Scotland - smashed initial target of £2,300. Many thanks to everyone who contributed.
9. Not falling off the bike during the entire trip. Amazing.
Only low point was the 3.5 days of incessant, cold, heavy rain coming up through England. Apart from that a great trip and very worth while adventure.
