Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have always found running good for clearing my head, and letting go. Over the past few years I have had cause to value this further as I become aware of people who have struggled with mental health problems in one form or another and of how common it is.
A mental health problem feels just as bad, or worse, than any other
illness – only you cannot see it. Although mental health problems are
very common – affecting one in four people in Scotland – there is still
stigma and discrimination towards people with mental health problems, as well as many myths about what different diagnoses mean.
However, despite these challenges, it is possible to recover from a
mental health problem and live a productive and fulfilling life. It is
important to remember that, if you have a mental health problem, it is
not a sign of weakness. Most people experiencing a common mental health problem see their symptoms pass quite quickly.
SAMH currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland providing mental health social care support, homelessness, addictions and employment services, among others.
These services together with their national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, sport and physical activity; inform their policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.
