Story
Having taken early retirement in Jan 2021, all was good. Overall I was in very good health, but during April of that year, there were a few signs everything wasn’t right! I’d lost a stone in weight, had a bit of discomfort in my lower abdomen & as men of an age experience, I’m told, I started having to get up through the night to go the the toilet. As it happens, weight loss was not an issue, it was related to being much more physically active, as opposed to sedentary, due to my retirement 😊
Based on this I contacted my GP mid-May, which led to blood tests, X-Ray, ultrasound, MRI, flow test & a Biopsy. Following these various procedures I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer on 12th October. Several options were presented to me for treatment & I chose surgery, which took place on 21st January 2022 and it was a success, with me being given the all clear on 4th March 2022 (143 days after diagnosis). Quarterly blood tests continue, all of which show PSA levels are undetectable, which is brilliant. So, over a year since my op, I’m cancer free and recuperation has gone extremely well.
In addition, my 3 brothers also got their PSA checked and all, thankfully, were okay 🙏🏻
I now consider it my mission to ensure I spread the message about Prostate cancer and how important it is to follow your instinct, i.e. if something doesn’t feel right please go to your GP. It only takes a few minutes to get a blood test, which will identify if any further tests are required and potentially treatment.
One in 8 men are diagnosed with Prostate cancer, some, sadly, not as fortunate as me, please ensure you are not one of them!
