Gordon's Stratford upon Avon Half-Marathon page

David was the best friend and the most supportive colleague you could hope for. We worked together for nearly 25 years and achieved so much together. It was devastating when David got his diagnosis, but he could not have shown greater courage and strength. He bore his illness uncomplainingly and was a shining example to us all at the most difficult possible time for him and his family. Tess has kindly given me some pictures of David which are in the Gallery.
Ever since he died | have been wanting to do something in his memory, but Covid has intervened! Now there is a chance. Stratford is the closest organised half-marathon to David's home in Claverdon, and my favourite course of the ones I have completed over the years. I have not picked up my running shoes since 2013, but I cannot think of a better reason than this.
There is a lot of significant progress being made in the treatment of brain cancer. Getting chemotherapy drugs through the blood brain barrier in sufficient volume to attack tumours has been a huge challenge. Progress is being made, but more money is needed to pursue that research. Please give generously to help ensure that, in the future, a diagnosis such as the one David received need not have such terrible consequences.
24th April is also six days before I retire as a partner at Gowling WLG (formerly Wragge & Co) after 32 years (and over 39 years with the firm). That is not the end of my working life, but it is a very significant milestone, and another reason to mark it with something like this!
Thank you, in anticipation of your support!
