Story
I hear you ask, ‘Why would you do that?’. . . It’s simple really, I want to give something back to the hospital that has done so much for Henry over the years and more importantly helped so much when I donated one of my kidneys to Henry in July 2021.
The money raised will go specifically to the Transplant Games Fund for 2023. This Fund helps to take the Evelina VIPs to the Transplant Games which is being held in Coventry next year. It is an amazing event where all the VIPs get to compete in a wealth of activities with other transplant patients. This is not just a great event for the children involved, but an amazing place for families who are in similar situations, to get together and offer much needed help and support to each other. We had the honour of being invited for the first time this year and it was such a special place to be for all of us.
So now the nitty gritty of what I am preparing to do. And when I say ‘what I am preparing to do’ what I really mean is ‘what my good friends Paul and Geoff(must also be a mad friend to do this with me) and I are going to be doing!’
On the first weekend (24th June), we will be taking on the South downs and the following weekend (7th July) we will be taking on the North Downs. This, of course, will be off-road on mostly single-track trails with quite a few areas where we will have to carry our bikes. It will take us roughly 5/6 days and will be around 250 miles as well as an enormous amount of climbing.
The training for this will be intense, as not only will we have our bikes but all of the equipment we need with us as well.
Whatever you can donate, however big or small, will be amazing and mean so much to this amazing charity that helps so many families
