Story
The VMCC End2End-2020 will see 60 historic motor cycles and their riders make the classic trip from top to bottom of Britain; a journey on many peoples must do list.To compliment the experience of the run, we intend to raise funds for a deserving charity and have selected Save the Children as their work cuts straight to the most vulnerable in society, both here in the UK and across the world.Rally Organiser, Glyn Buckler, said: Its always life affirming to experience the camaraderie of the Clubs members as they pursue their shared interests in motor cycles but we don't lose sight of those that are not in such a fortunate position and do our best to raise awareness and funds to help people wherever we can, so please give generously'.About the VMCC: Established in 1946 to promote the use and preservation of 'Vintage' machines, the Vintage Motor Cycle Club (VMCC) has over 14,000 members across the world and welcomes anyone with an interest in historic motor cycles.
Very sadly this event is now cancelled but for very serious reasons. My co-organiser and mentor in running this project, Bob Fisher, tragically died a short while ago. Nonetheless, I was confident I could run the event single handedly.
However, health related issues suddenly took over my life too. I have been living with Multiple Myeloma for nearly 7 years. This is a currently incurable cancer of the blood.
I have now spent over 10 weeks in hospital and I am artificially living on transfusions while I wait for a new chemo regimen to kick in. This will only buy me a few months or so but right now I will take that.
So I am sure you can understand why I had to cancel the event. Even handing it over would have been too demanding and stressful.
On the positive side, some 3/5ths of the run entrants have elected to have their deposits forwarded to Save the Children; which means our designated charity will not be entirely empty handed; which is pleasing.
