WALKING 10 MILES AND LIGHTING UP THE NIGHT FOR LINDSEY LODGE HOSPICE IN MEMORY OF MUM
Glow Walkers in 2023 will be taking on the challenge of completing a 10 mile or 5 mile route while lighting up the streets of Scunthorpe in neon yellow and green in aid of Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare.
----
September marks a year since Mum (Jill) passed (13th September 2022) at Lindsey Lodge Hospice surrounded by her family. Far too young, but having dedicated her life to family, we remember her each day. A much-loved mum, wife & friend whose loss is felt each day and new experience.
A rapid series of events over several months hid a cancer diagnosis, that once received was just a few shorts weeks until it overtook her. There are still no words for a life without Mum. Jill was the sun many of us revolved around, the much loved connection between family and friends over generations and miles. An invincible and constant presence who made the effort and the time for everyone. Missed deeply by the daughters she dedicated herself to, the husband she made a home with, her angel Teddie, and all those she chose to make family.
September 2023 is a milestone.
The challenge of 10 miles is greater than it might have been before I developed long-covid and lost Mum. Supported by my asthmatic Yorkshireman Jarred, I will be walking 10 miles from 9pm September 8th 2023. Lighting up the night in my hometown, remembering Mum each mile, and our final week together this time last year. We’re not your natural athletes, but there’s no time better than now to face a physical challenge to mark the incredible legacy Mum has left and the work those at Lindsey Lodge do.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice is simply there for you
The hospice provided an incredible and welcome environment that allowed us and Teddie to be together at the most difficult time of our lives. One night Mum went from making deals with doctors and running our lives from hospital, to having exhausted her last reserves and facing final days. Lindsey Lodge were there to take us in with respect, care and friendship. We don't know how much Mum will know the part they played in getting her out of the hospital, but we do know she'd be grateful for them taking care of us as it was her reason to get up each day. Allowing us to be together in comfort and peace, honouring her wishes, is priceless. The work they do is entirely for free, reliant on donations. Truly, we believe that no one can understand how touching and vital their exceptional work is, for when the unbelievable is happening. Whatever you can help me raise for this special place, will never be enough, but will forever touch so many lives.
