Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have done some fund raising for cancer charities before so what’s different now some might ask. Well, like so many I’ve heard myself say “you just never know the day when you might need their help”. 9th January 2018 was that day for me - the day I got the call that everyone dreads or can even imagine. Ovarian cancer was confirmed. I met the cancer specialist first thing the next morning and underwent surgery two weeks later. So having faced my own run in with cancer last year I know only too well how hard it is to detect ovarian cancer and how 7,200 women die each year due to poor detection and diagnosis. I was lucky. I listened to my intuition and refused to accept no for an answer from ‘the medical experts’. Why should they listen to me? Because a woman knows her body best and my instincts were overwhelming. I knew something was wrong and turns out I was right. So because of my insistence to have the appropriate investigations my cancer was detected early placing me in the 90% category of long term, post surgery survival. I hope the medical experts learnt something from this that no text book will ever teach them. And now March 2019 is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and I feel the need to do my bit to #raiseawareness #fundresearch and #savelives.
I’ve signed up to walk 11,000 steps every day throughout March. That’s 341,000 steps in 31 days to be precise or an estimated 150-170 miles! It sure as hell isn’t gonna be easy for someone who sits at a desk all day, every day 😬 What do I need now? ... aside from a good pair of trainers and a large pack of blister plasters? I need you to sponsor me please 😊
Also, ladies, if you want to do something REALLY smart check out the website address below and if you have any doubts go to your GP and DO NOT take no for an answer! www.targetovariancancer.org.uk
