At very short notice I have decided to take part in the Bobby Moore Fund’s Project Brazil, in fact I leave in just over 2 weeks time so wish me luck… 

I am heading off with 34 other people on an 11 day trip to Bandeira, in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in Brazil, to renovate the local school’s facilities.  The project has been developed in partnership with the local population and the work we do out there will leave a lasting legacy for the community. 

We will be working long days in the heat doing things like painting and decorating the existing school building, making repairs, extending the school with an additional classroom and creating a shaded area and a playground.  For most of the project we will be camping, so hardly the lap of luxury!

As well as the work we do on the school the other key point of the project is to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund to put towards bowel cancer research in the UK.  

The statistics for bowel cancer are scary.  Every year 16,000 people die from the disease in the UK, making it the second highest killing cancer after lung cancer. However if it is caught early it is more than 90% treatable.
