Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So at the age of 54, I've decided to run a marathon around the pitch at Easter Road Stadium.
Here's why: My story started in 2002, when I was diagnosed with dangerously high blood pressure because of clinincal and morbid obesity. Off work for 6 weeks, packed full of medication and warned to either lose weight or die young. Lost 6 and a half stones, but couldn't get below the 19 stone mark, still far too heavy for my 6' 2 frame.
Along came the Hibernian Community Foundation and the Football Fans in Training (FFiT) programme in February 2011, and after the 13 week course, I was down by two stones, lost 30cm off my belly, and was able to run the length of a football pitch! The Foundation introduced a follow-up programme for graduates of the FFiT, Fit for Change, (F4C) and I continued on, until I was down to twelve and a half stone, and with small steps and continued encouragement, I managed to run a half-marathon - 54 laps around the pitch at Easter Road Stadium on the last day of the 2013 season. In September, two of us and our F4C coach completed the Yorkshire Tough Mudder. This year, I'm now working with the HIbernian Community Foundation as an administrator and coach with the F4C, and decided that this was probably the last chance I'd have to run a full marathon, and who better to do it for than the Hibernian Community Foundation, that had helped me turn my life around, so we can continue to offer free courses to those that need to change their lives like I had done.
The Foundation is a charity, that harnesses the power and passion of football to make a real difference in people’s lives and within local communities, and we want to continue the follow-up courses and get as many people in our community as we can to participate in our health programmes. Using JustGiving is one of the best ways we can do that. Here's why.
