Help us deliver 500 free food boxes to our community.
GL11 Community Hub reacted quickly to the emerging Covid-19 crisis, setting up a co-ordinated response to help every street, every family and household.
We are delivering food boxes to residents – free if needed – during the coronavirus crisis so people can stay home and stay safe. Currently about a quarter of the food we are providing for free for people who are struggling.
Local people have lost their jobs, businesses are failing and benefit payments are delayed. Many people who have never had to ask for support before are under real financial pressure now. In the first six weeks of setting up we answered 2,864 calls from people who never expected to be in this situation.
“This is the hardest phone call I’ve ever had to make. I’m self-employed and have always been able to provide for my family but with no income and three kids under four we are running out of food.”
“My Mum lives in Cam but I am unable to help her as I live so far away. It’s such peace of mind and a weight off my shoulders knowing GL11 is there looking after her.”
It is currently costing GL11 £500 a week to subsidise food boxes to people unable to afford them. These boxes offer fresh, healthy food to those most in need, which is essential to top up tinned food bank goods.
£6 buys a basics box which includes milk, bread, eggs and cheese
£10 buys a fresh fruit and veg box + delivery
Please help us to carry on feeding our local community during this crisis.
