We are here for every cat to keep them happy, healthy and safe.

Story

My love of cats is over 30 years deep now. My mum has always said a house is not home without a cat and we've had them my entire life.

My first was Toffee a kitten we got when we moved to Hastings from Suffolk, after Mustard our cat at the time left us. We searched for him for weeks and I hope he took refuge close by at another home. I thought I saw him months later but it was hard to tell (I was 11!)

But I was utterly devastated - its fair to say I can't cope in life without a cat by my side and this rings true today. So my mum surprised me with this tiny thing and we called her Toffee. She was so loved and looked after right until the end on her 14th year. She was quite ill at the end, her internal organs were shutting down and she ended up running away - a behaviour I only learned then was common for cats when they know they are nearing the end of their life.

I had long moved out of the family home at this point and decided to rescue my own, I called her Willow. She was a huge maine coon and more like a dog! Already middle aged she was a character, she will never be forgotten.

Its fair to say working for Cats Protection is a dream come true for me! I started working for the charity in July 2017 and have been given this amazing opportunity to be part of our India Tiger Trek and Conservation Trip this year.

We will be camping and trekking the lesser Himalayas, and working in tiger conservation in Kanha National Park. It will be a huge challenge for me in many ways, first off I sleep terribly so we'll see how I cope camping for 4 nights! Secondly I have never trekked that distance before and on that terrain (8-10km each day) in heat, and I am terrified of insects!

As part of my training for India 2018 I will also be:

Climbing Ben Nevis in July
Completing the Thames Bridges Trek in September

Back to cats I have since rescued two more called Belle and Minnie, and they are my world. These two had a horrible start and you can see that in their behaviour, they are extremely timid cats. However they have come out of their shell now 18 months later and they are the most loving, affectionate cats - to me anyway! Sorry Andrew (my bro).

The money you donate will go directly towards helping cats and kittens locally in the Hastings area. I'm privileged to be a part of such a worthwhile charity and a lovely team!

So go on give me a sponsor, I promise to post any weird and funny reactions of me seeing ginormous insects :-)
