Race for Life Aylesbury 2014 · 18 May 2014 ·
I have set myself the challenge of participating in Race for Life for the very first time this year. For some of you long distance runners 5k is no distance at all ....but for me this is going to be a challenge !!...I have not done any form of running since i was at schoool... ( 25+ years !!!)....5k to walk would be fine, but then where's the challenge :)
We all know someone who has or is going through this terrible disease, and it has such a profound effect on peoples lives, which touches us all in so many different ways.1 in 3 people in the UK will develop some form of cancer at some stage in their lifetime, these are frightening statistics. Breast, Lung, Prostate and Bowel Cancer account for over half of the cancers diagnosed each year. My run is to raise awareness of Bowel Cancer. I am running for Emily's dad, Emily is one of the Assistant Managers at Mulberry where i work part -time, and her Dad Michael Harvey has recently been diagnosed at the age of 65 with Bowel Cancer.Michael has recently undergone his first treatment of Chemotherapy and received no side effects, and is feeling okay from his treatment....More chemotherapy to come.....I'm rooting for you Michael and determined to complete the race..
Cancer Research receives no government funding, so every £1 that is donated 80p will go straight to Cancer Research, and if you gift aid your sponsorship this can add up to an additional 25% on top of each donation :) Donations made on my just giving page, go directly to cancer research..
I will be participating in Aylesbury on Sunday 18th May at 10.30pm. I shall be joined by a couple of friends Lauren & Lisa, so we can spur each other on ..... if you would like to come and give some encouragement on the day...i wil need it :).Thank you Gina xx
