Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page - much appreciated.
I have been lucky enough to get a ballot place for the London Marathon in April (2019) and thought I would put my pain to good use by asking for help raising some money for a great charity.
The Macular Society supports people affected by macular degeneration and also funds research into the condition. My grandpa (Harry) and grandma (Ruth) both had it, along with my grandfather-in-law (Bill), so I got to see first-hand how debilitating it can be. Harry was an avid painter and writer, even into his eighties, and found his loss of sight frustrating, distressing and demoralising. All the grandparents found it hard to engage when their sight began to fail, and lost interest in life. It was hard to watch and know there was nothing we could do.
Although it's too late to help their sight, all money raised will go towards researching the condition and helping others who are currently suffering (and with some types of macular degeneration being hereditary, it would be nice to think that by the time I'm 'of an age', there might be a cure or prevention 😉. . .).
Thank you for any pennies you can spare - anything you donate will help motivate me through the winter training and all 26.2 miles!
