Story
It's literally a 'high five' - although the after effects are lasting way longer than the five minutes the drop lasted - my head's still up there somewhere, I'm gazing out over the coast from a mile and a half up in the air...
To tell the truth I was pretty scared about not being able to breathe during the freefall (among other things!), but i must have been able to, because, according to the instructor, I screamed as we tumbled out of the plane (- unless he was having me on...)! 'Not many people do that!' he said. Hmmm
Not sure I'm looking forward to the video, now...
WAHAAAAAAAAY - WE DID IT!!!
What a fabulous experience - UNbelievable!!
Will be uploadiing more pics over the next few days - and film! Watch this space...!
Updating the page with just a week to go, have found that we've reached £700! Unbelievable! Everyone's been fantastically generous.
Have to admit that after all this waiting, and with the jump looming - I'm getting a leeeeetle bit nervous now...!
WE'VE GOT A NEW DATE - SUNDAY 23 MAY!!!! (...let's hope for warmer weather...!)
AND - as you can see - WE'VE ALMOST REACHED OUR TARGET!!! FANTASTIC - THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH!
Bernard came home from work one day recently and said “There’s a chance to do a skydive for charity...”. It’s something I’ve always fancied trying – but of course my feet have always been firmly planted on the ground when I’ve said it. Anyway, now I’m putting my money where my mouth is (and, hopefully some of your money, too!) and we’re both going to do a sponsored skydive. My dad died in August 2008 having suffered from emphysema for many years and, as well as being asthmatic myself, I know many people who endure horrible lung disease. I hope that making a contribution to the British Lung Foundation might in some way help anyone who is struggling to breathe. We’re also raising money for St Bartholomew’s Church in Sydenham, South London. St Bart’s is a lovely warm and welcoming community, which we’ve enjoyed being part of for the last ten years or so. However, as the church was built in the 1820s, it’s feeling its age – and needs constant care and maintenance, not to mention funds for many projects undertaken with and for the local community. Unfortunately, St Bart’s isn’t yet on the JustGiving website, so if you want to contribute funds, please contact us for details at info@jesselina.co.uk. You can contribute direct to the British Lung Foundation quickly and easily via JustGiving (see below). You’ll still be able to contribute for some time after the event – but don’t delay! These are both really important charities, so please give what you can – and wish us luck!!! Thank you!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
