Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Here we go again!!!!!! It has been 10 years since the MP6 headed off
to Peru and trekked Machu Picchu, and thank you so much to all of those who supported us then.
So, what better way to celebrate ten years on than to do another charity walk, but this time in the UK? We plan to walk the Coast 2 Coast path, all 192 miles of it in true Wainwright style! Crazy we know, but we will walk it over two sections, so as to give our now older bodies time to recover, and time to get truly fit.
In mid-June we will walk from St Bee’s to Kirkby Stephen, 85 miles. In September we will head off again and walk from Kirkby Stephen to Robin Hood’s Bay, another 107 miles. We feel sure there will be a few more miles that we walk on planned diversions to see places of outstanding beauty, and some that will not be planned!!!
The first section will actually be Ian and Gill’s Honeymoon and what better way to celebrate than with best friends, yomping through fabulous countryside, eating great food and finding splendid hostelries?
You will not be surprised the MS Society is our chosen charity this time. Over 130,000 people in the UK live with multiple sclerosis. For some, research has found treatments. But too many people still don’t have anything to stop their MS getting worse, and some don’t have any treatments at all. Funds are much needed for research, clinical trials and equipment.
MS researchers are working on three ways to stop MS-prevent immune damage, promote myelin repair and protect nerves from damage. They believe if they achieve these goals, they can stop MS.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects your brain and spinal cord. In MS, the coating that protects your nerves (myelin) is damaged. Very often this is known as the ‘Invisible disease’, as often you would not see any signs of how much a person is suffering. They learn coping mechanisms and listen to their bodies, which often leads to times when rest is the only answer.
Gill’s daughter, Kate, has a wonderful blog https://yesihavems.com which is an inspiration.
