WE DID IT!!!! JUST A WALK IN THE PARK!!!!! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT. TO RAISE OVER £500 IS FANTASTIC!!!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and sponsoring me in the Christie Hospital Walk of Hope on September 11th 2010, which I am doing in memory of my beautiful wife Gillian. I am walking with Lillian, one of Gill's close friends, but she has been training and I am just hoping I can keep up with her!
Gill was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March 2004, only 10 weeks after first showing what we now know to be the classic symptoms - we didn't then of course. Most women don't know the symptoms which is why the disease is so deadly.
She had chemotherapy at the Christie in 2004, 7, 8, and 9, and we had many happy times in those six years as well as a lot of tears. Her attitude was to ignore it as much as possible – ‘I just want live a normal life’. So she would put on her pink lippy and her even pinker nail polish and get out there, always looking good whatever she was feeling inside. And she was so good at putting on a brave face that there were many people who knew her well who did not realise at that time just how ill she was. But by 2010 she was weary of it all and could fight it no longer, and she died on 9th July in the Bolton Hospice. She was a lovely warm smiling woman who touched more lives then she ever realised, and who was not only a best friend to many but was the glue which held lots of friends together. Helen and Ian and I miss her so much.
Lots of money is needed for research into Ovarian cancer, and also to raise women's awareness of the symptoms so that earlier disgnosis is possible. Thank you for your support.
