Story

Tripin Heidi (no g), my temperamental, money pit of a 47 yr old Germanic VW campervan, is taking part in Run the Ring 3 - the UK's  largest & longest VW Campervan/Transporter/ Bug - (in fact anything that has VW on the front), charity cruise around the M25 on 23 September 2018 in aid of Brainwave, this amazing children's charity.

This is our 3rd year of the cruise & it’s getting bigger & bigger as the years go on.

There will be nearly 1,000 beloved VDubs - from Split Screens to Early Bays to Transporters to retro VW Golfs et all participating. If it has a VW on the front, many will be taking part.

The "Run the Ring' crew are passionate VW owners who will do anything to show off their ride! 🙄 They decorate their vans, have sleepovers the night before & meet each other after the event.

This amazing event started off as a joke from a passionate VDub owner, John Emberton, who simply posted on social media "Anyone want to run my Ring?"

From that simple comment, a humongous event grew into an amazing, fund raising spectacle.

Year 1 - Teenage Cancer Trust

Year2 - Scotty's Little Soldiers

We are now in year 3, and our chosen charity this year  is Brainwave - a small charity which helps brain damaged children & their families.

And the list of participants is growing each year.......

Imagine folk driving around the M25 on a lazy Sunday morning trying to sneak back home before the Mrs notices or late for a flight from Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted to go on a well deserved holiday or late getting to the mother-in- law's for lunch then getting delayed by 1,000 VDubs whose fastest speed is 1/4 mile an hour???  (Well, some of them anyway).

To date, the RTR website has had only one complainer!  He suggested..... . "We do a sponsored walk like everyone else!" Kill joy😂

The smiles & waves from other travellers - children, medallion men in their BMWs & even HGV lorry drivers is a joy to behold but more importantly, the children's charity - Brainwave - who get to benefit from this fabtastic event, makes the whole experience worth it. Some fellow travellers even looked  us up & donated as they were passing - how great is that?

Each participant has paid to take part, some of us do extra fundraising on this site, some run competitions & all donations go to Brainwave.

Folk who can't make it, whose VDubs have let them down, professional photographers  & supporters  stand on bridges over the M25 with banners waving & cheering.

What joy that vintage/current  VDubs can create so much fun & cause so much havoc!!!!

VDubbers, their crew, children & VDub K9s totally love taking part in amazing event.

Plus the fact, it's a good excuse to show off all our precious & beloved VDubs 🤘
